What tests do I need to purchase?

What you need to do when you travel to England from abroad depends on whether you qualify as fully vaccinated or not. If you are fully vaccinated you are no longer required to take any type of test or isolate after your arrival. If you are not fully vaccinated you will need to take a PCR test on or before day 2 following your arrival in the country.

Check if you qualify as fully vaccinated

To qualify under the fully vaccinated rules for travel to England, you must have proof of vaccination with a full course of an approved vaccine. You must have had your final dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before you arrive in England. The day you had your final dose does not count as one of the 14 days.

The fully vaccinated rules also apply if you are either:

  • under 18
  • taking part in an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial in the UK or the USA, or a phase 2 or 3 vaccine trial that is regulated by the EMA or SRA
  • unable to have a COVID-19 vaccination for a medical reason which has been approved by a registered medical professional under the medical exemptions process, and you are resident in England

Proof of recovery from previous infection with COVID-19 - also known as natural immunity - will not be accepted as an alternative to proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

Where do I find my booking reference?

Your PCR tests must be booked before you travel so that you can enter your booking reference on you passenger locator form (PLF). You must fill in a PLF no less than 48 hours before your arrival.

After purchasing your kits you will receive two emails from Cellmark. The first email confirms receipt of your order. The purpose of the second email is to:

  1. provide you with your unique Cellmark booking reference(s) which you are required to enter on your passenger locator form,
  2. provide you with a link to our 'Travel Information form' which you'll need to complete before we can send you your kits. Cellmark needs to collect this information in compliance with public health legislation and so that it can be passed on with the result of your test to the UK Health Security Agency.
